The house on mango street is now one of my favorite books it teaches you how a person who grows up very poor can find good in what she does and can find friends who are kind and she enjoys being around. Many of these characters people can relate to giving this book a very powerful message. Or like Marin who lives near Esperanza and is so desperate for the attention of boys she dances very inappropriately to music in front of her house. Many of the characters have individual problems like Esperanza’s best friend sally who is kept in her house like a prisoner cause her father thinks she’s too pretty for her own good, her father also beats her causing her to go to school with bruises and she lies and says she fell Down the stairs but Esperanza never believes her. I believe the house on mango street is a very inspiring story one of which many people can relate to. This story shows a journey of a girl who came from nothing and how she still finds fun in the situation she’s in. The author doesn’t seem to go in chronological order and really only include key invents nothing in between. All the houses on mango street are poor and many many families are struggling. Over time Esperanza meets friends who help her grow and learn. They family bought a house on mango street next to some interesting people. As she is growing and maturing into a teenage girl she is learning things about life. She is embarrassed by the fact that she and her family don't have a lot of money and live in poverty. The book is about a young girl named Esperanza, who lives in a Chicago town that is poor. This was a good book that everyone should read! It has short stories in it that make it easy to read and understand. If you feel that this book is "inappropriate" I strongly suggest you visit any real life middle school and you'll find that this book is much easier to digest than the real situations many of your children's peers are likely facing.The House on Mango Street, by Sandra Cisneros.
